ESPN’s award-winning and critically-acclaimed 30 for 30 series of documentaries hired 30 distinct filmmakers to tell 30 different sports-related stories for the 30 year anniversary of the sports cable network.
Director Reggie Rock Bythewood (writer of Notorious) tells One Night in Vegas, the story of the enlightening relationship between rapper Tupac Shakur and heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, culminating in the fateful night on September 7, 1996, when Tupac Shakur was murdered on the Las Vegas strip after a Mike Tyson fight.
Bythewood chose to frame the two characters as larger-than-life titans, utilizing bombastic spoken word, and, most prominently, pre-existing comic-book/graphic novel elements that Greasy Pig Studios brought to life.
Greasy Pig Studios created several minutes of motion graphics sequences, from graphic novel animations, animating lyrics behind reciting performers, newspaper article overlays, as well as the film’s opening title sequence. Additionally, GPS also created the opening logo graphics for One Night in Vegas production companies Nomad Entertainment and Undisputed Films, both of which played in front of the film.
