“Factual Gaming News” site You Have Died of Dysentery commissioned Greasy Pig Studios to create its header and favicon. Taking direct inspiration from the classic PC game Oregon Trail (from which the site took its title), the header is an illustration of the classic Oregon Trail horizon, with its protagonist wagon this time facing off against video gaming’s most iconic villains.*

Opting to forego the 8-bit pixel look save for the typography gives the header a more whimsical and timeless quality, while also looking hand  crafted. Still, the art style is not entirely inappropriate, as direct inspiration was taken from the illustration style used in many Street Fighter graphics, as seen here:

And of course, the graphic also recalls the classic 2D sprite-based style of retro video games.

The favicon, on the other hand, is a bit more modern, and in fact is derived from a rejected header/logo concept, depicting the Oregon Trail wagon with a video game D-pad behind it.

Both images were illustrated in Adobe Flash for the sharp, crisp 2D style.

*Yes, Blanka is not technically a villain, being more of a misunderstood monster, in the same way that Frankenstein could be considered not a villain.
